Plans move forward for wind power project in Warren County

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Plans are moving forward for a wind power project in Warren County.

The (Lafayette) Journal and Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/2gHcDQ3 ) Orion Renewable Energy Group, the project's developer, plans to erect roughly 150 wind turbines throughout Jordan, Liberty, Prairie and Steuben townships, using 27,000 acres of private land.

A board of zoning appeals on Monday passed an exemption about construction of Jordan Creek Wind Farm, allowing development plans to move ahead.

The proposal has been widely contested among Warren County residents, with some saying the turbines will decrease property values and create building restrictions. Others say the environmental and economic benefits from wind energy outweigh any drawbacks.
