Gingerbread House Contest winners announced

Creativity won the day on Saturday when the Glen Ellyn Historical Society announced the winners of its Gingerbread House Contest.

Among the blue-ribbon winners were: Luke Oleksak for a gingerbread reproduction of his home in Glen Ellyn; Marta Scarleski for her entry titled "I Believe;" Cub Scout Pack 158, Den 4 with a depiction of a Cantigny campsite; Trojan Horse by Peggy Kuo; and Tree House by Diesal and Troy Oleksak.

St. Petronnile's first-grade Daisy Brownie Troop won blue ribbons as well as red ribbons for its cottage designs. The Book Store gingerbread creation by Grace Enright won a first-prize ribbon.

In addition to the display of gingerbread houses at the Glen Ellyn History Center, the event included a visit with Santa Claus and a candlelit tour of Stacy's Tavern Museum. Visitors to Stacy's Tavern were greeted by historical society members who described a pioneer Christmas celebration and demonstrated cookie baking for the holidays.

The museum was decorated by the Twig and Bloom Garden Club led by Glen Ellyn Historical Society member Sharon Cote.

A bigger Gingerbread House Contest is planned for next year and more businesses are encouraged to take part.
