Beware biting the 'reds' that feed us
If anyone has seen the red and blue map of the USA after the last three presidential elections, one has to ask why the greatest area of the country is Republican red while the states with the largest centers of population are Democrat blue. Our own Illinois has a similar pattern,
The answer is simple - food production and manufacturing.
It takes a lot of acres to grow grains, soybean proteins, and raise livestock. But today, this is taken for granted. While the God-fearing customs of the society of World War II are still revered by those in "flyover" country, different ideas direct the population centers. It is only natural that people who, in the words of Genesis, toil to eat the yield of the earth for "all the days of your life," respect the role of nature (and nature's God) in producing what is vital for human life.
Today, less than five percent of our population feeds us all and a good part of the rest of the world.
The Herald has printed many opinions of readers and columnists who want to scare us by comparing our president-elect to old novels and Hitler's fascism.
But the founders' wisdom of a bicameral legislature based on both popular and equal representation of the states was never more important than now, where relativism denies truth while celebrating its opposite and values and "lifestyle" replace morality.
As for that red "minority" in flyover country, who cares what they think? Without them, the rest of us "enlightened" people would only starve to death.
