Cops give kids a hand shopping in Round Lake Beach

Submitted by the Round Lake Beach Police Department

On Dec. 5, the Round Lake Police Department hosted its 10th Annual Shop With a Cop event at the Round Lake Beach Civic Center.

This year, 50 area children were invited to go shopping with a police officer. Each child was provided with $100 to buy gifts and other items. The children were transported by police officers in squad cars to Wal-Mart for the shopping. Children buy not only toys for themselves, but also in some cases basic items such as coats and boots.

There was also a visit by Santa.

The event involved not only officers from Round Lake Beach but officers from other area departments at well.

The funds for this event are provided by donations from the public and local businesses. The Round Lake Beach Police Department thanks Buffalo Wild Wings for providing food for the children and their parents.
