Let's hope he's not another Reagan
Since the election, I have read many opinions that compare the president-elect to Ronald Reagan. Recently, a letter from L. Dean Hufsey was headlined "Trump will be bigger than Reagan." Just which parts of the Reagan legacy will Trump emulate?
The lies about not raising taxes? The refusal to do anything about our dependence on oil, which has had disastrous effects on the entire world in the last 30 years? The ignoring of environmental issues that he joked about, which are now coming home to roost in the form of global climate change?
Or maybe it was the sending of our troops to be slaughtered in Beirut without any response other than to start a phony war in Granada to compensate.
We can already see that the incoming president has a leg up on the greed and thirst for deregulation that Reagan employed to the detriment of American jobs and the middle class. He has also shown a facility for repeating acts akin to Reagan's in the Iran-Contra Affair before ever taking office. And, of course, looking at the people who are being proposed as cabinet members, we can assume that the new administration is well on its way to overcoming Reagan's record as the most corrupt administration ever, based on the actual number of those indicted.
Yes, we may be in for rerun of your "beloved" Reagan. God help us all.
