Mississippi fires co-offensive coordinator Dan Werner

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi co-offensive coordinator Dan Werner has been fired after five seasons with coach Hugh Freeze.

The school announced on Thursday that Werner's contract would not be renewed. The change means that Freeze is looking for new offensive and defensive coordinators following a disappointing 5-7 season.

The school also announced that assistant athletic director Barney Farrar, who worked with the football program, also has been fired.

Werner's main responsibility on the staff was quarterbacks, and they usually played well under his watch. His two main starters during his tenure - Bo Wallace and Chad Kelly - are both among the school's top five in career passing yards.

The changes come less than two weeks after veteran Ole Miss defensive coordinator Dave Wommack announced his retirement.
