Bloomington woman gets 22 years in husband's shooting death

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - A Bloomington woman has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for the shooting death of her estranged husband last year.

The (Bloomington) Herald-Times reports (http://bit.ly/2fTAbNU ) that 24-year-old Taylor Kirby was sentenced Thursday in 26-year-old Justin Kirby's killing during an argument. She received 17 years for voluntary manslaughter and five years for using a firearm in the crime. The couple has a young son and daughter.

Taylor Kirby made a brief statement in court saying she is sorry the two children lost their father and that she "asked God for forgiveness I don't feel worth of asking from others."

Justin Kirby's adoptive parents told the judge they were not happy with a plea agreement in the case. Justin Kirby's family said they believed Taylor Kirby deserved a longer sentence.
