Warren fills up against Niles North

Scoring in bunches was on the menu for a Warren girls basketball hoping to rebound from a tough weekend loss to Fenwick.

And the Blue Devils feasted, getting a strong all-around in downing tournament host Niles North in Skokie on Tuesday night.

Kaylen Dickson led the way for Warren (2-1) with a season-high 23 points and 14 rebounds, and Jordyn Hughes added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

"We are a perimeter-dominated team," Warren coach John Stanczykiewicz said. "Any team that is perimeter-dominated will score in bunches. You're going to go through stretches that you're hot and jump shots are going in - that's when you're not shooting that bad."

The Blue Devils started the game with 12 straight points, with Hughes scoring 8 of them, before Niles North (0-4) got on the board.

"I just tried to play my hardest and motivate my team," Hughes said. "I wanted to energize them and wanted to see us get a huge lead like that, so we can get ahead and get our bench players in."

Warren held a 17-11 lead after the first quarter. But the Viking worked themselves back into it and pulled within 23-17 on a Lauren D'Souza 3.

But the Blue Devils closed the half with a 16-3 run for a 39-20 lead at the break.

Then Warren ran away at the start of the second half with 21 consecutive points. Dickson had 13 in that spurt as the Devils led 60-26 after three quarters.

"We really didn't want to lose again and we want to go (3-0) this week," Dickson said. "We really want to be good and competitive. We just really want to win."
