Palatine Concert Band Presents its Annual Holiday Concert

The Palatine Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Frederick Lowe, will take the stage to present its annual Holiday Concert on Friday December 2, 2016, 7:00PM, at the Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 East Wood Street in Palatine.

The Holiday Concert focuses on the celebration of multiple faith traditions through music designed to get you into the holiday spirit. "We have an excellent variety of music planned for everyone," noted Dr. Lowe. "Regardless of your custom, we will find a way to help you get into a positive mood for the coming holidays."

The band will perform selections from an excellent repertoire including: including Once In Royal David's City, Gaunlett, arr. Sparke; The Eighth Candle, Reisteter; Christmas March, Goldman, arr. Rogers; selections from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Elfman, arr. Brown; and Russian Christmas Music, Reed. We will also perform many of your traditional Christmas favorites; give you an opportunity to sing-a-long; and of course, a visit from Santa is planned for those young and young-at-heart. "This is a perfect holiday activity for the whole family", said Carin Zachar, president of the band. "This promises to be wonderful way to launch the Holiday Season for young and old, and we hope you'll make plans to join us."

The band has 2 remaining concerts on its schedule for the indoor season. The Winter Concert, Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Palatine High School will center on our interpretation of the "British Invasion," The Spring Concert Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Cutting Hall will focus on "Fanfares and Classics".

Dr. Frederick Lowe became the twelfth conductor of the Palatine Concert Band in August 2013. In addition, he serves as a lecturer in the music program at Loyola University Chicago, where he serves as director of ensembles, conducts the Wind Ensemble, coordinates the athletic bands and leads the Band of Wolves, and teaches courses in the art of music listening and conducting.

Dr. Lowe earned his bachelor of music degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he studied clarinet and was a graduate assistant with the Michigan Marching Band. He earned his doctor and master of music degrees in conducting at Northwestern University.

The Palatine Concert Band was originally formed in 1875, and dissolved in 1935. Now in its 62nd consecutive season since being reformed in 1955, the band is supported by the Palatine park District and maintains a year-round concert schedule. In addition to four indoor concerts that coincide with the school year, the band also performs five outdoor concerts during the summer - three at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater in Palatine and two on the Lake Michigan lakefront in Wilmette and Evanston to celebrate Independence Day on July 3 and 4.
