Oakton hires new vice president for administrative affairs

Oakton Community College has hired a new vice president for administrative affairs, who will serve as a right-hand person to the school's president.

Edwin Chandrasekar was hired for the position after 67 people applied and from four finalists selected. He is currently executive director of the Asian Health Coalition at the University of Chicago and previously was deputy director of the Center for Asian Health Equity.

"Edwin's combination of private sector and nonprofit finance experience - along with his passion for creating equity for underserved communities - make him uniquely qualified for the position," said Oakton President Joianne Smith in a statement.

Chandrasekar's hiring, approved by the school board this week, takes effect Jan. 3. He will be paid an annual salary of $170,000.
