Man on probation charged with Elgin break-in

A 21-year-old Elgin man who prosecutors say phoned a homeowner to ensure the house was unoccupied before a break-in was ordered held on $100,000 bail Thursday.

D'Andre Baker is charged with residential burglary.

He is on probation for theft in Lake County and has a pending domestic battery charge, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say Baker called the homeowner on Sept. 13. When no one answered, he climbed through a window and let three other people into the home, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Maureen McGee. McGee said Baker and the homeowner know each other, but she did not elaborate.

According to McGee, the homeowner later arranged a meeting during which Baker returned some of the homeowner's belongings.

Baker next appears in court on Dec. 8.
