Central Indiana drug arrest sweep nets dozens of arrests
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies have arrested dozens of people and are seeking 12 others on charges of distributing methamphetamine and other drugs across central Indiana.
Nearly 700 officers fanned out across the region Thursday morning to serve arrest and search warrants. U.S Attorney Josh Minkler says they seized 19 pounds of methamphetamine, 1.5 kilograms of heroin, one kilogram of cocaine, $85,000 in drug proceeds and 94 guns.
Minkler says an enterprise that transported drugs from the Mexican border to central Indiana "has been dismantled from top to bottom."
Officials say a federal grand jury returned an indictment unsealed Thursday against 23 people for felony drug charges, and 17 other people face related charges in state courts.
