Incarnate Word survives late rally, beats Houston Baptist
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Trent Brittain threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns and Incarnate Word held on to beat Houston Baptist 28-26 on Thursday night for the Cardinals' first win at home.
Incarnate Word took a 28-13 lead with 6:02 remaining when Jordan Hicks made his only catch of the game for a 14-yard touchdown. But Houston Baptist scored touchdowns on its next two possessions as B.J. Kelly and Tony Dawson each scored from 6 yards out.
After Dawson's score, the Huskies' 2-point conversion attempt fell incomplete. Brittain sealed it when he ran for 2 yards on a third-and-1.
Jamari Gilbert made six catches for 158 yards and one touchdown - a 76 yarder in the first quarter - for Incarnate Word (3-8, 3-6 Southland Conference). The Cardinals won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Dawson rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns for Houston Baptist (4-7, 3-5).
