ADM: Longtime CEO Dwayne Andreas died at Decatur hospital

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Archer Daniels Midland Company has provided more details about the death of longtime CEO Dwayne Andreas.

The agribusiness company says Andreas died Wednesday in Decatur. ADM previously said Andreas died at age 98 but provided no further information.

ADM spokeswoman Jackie Anderson said Thursday that Andreas died at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur. The cause of death was not available.

Andreas became CEO of the Illinois-based grain processor in 1970 and resigned in 1997. He built ADM into a global force that generates revenues of more than $60 billion a year.

A price-fixing scandal rocked the company in 1995. FBI agents raided ADM's Decatur headquarters and Andreas' son, Michael, went to prison.

ADM's headquarters moved to Chicago in 2014 but substantial operations remain in Decatur, where Andreas lived.
