St. Philip Advent Services

Holden Evening Prayer Promotional

Stressmas. It all starts with Black Friday. We burn the candle at both ends during this season. We put such pressure on ourselves and others to create the "perfect" holiday. And then there are those of us for whom Christmas is not so much white, but blue. Perhaps it is the first holiday without a loved one. Hallmark, Norman Rockwell and Currier & Ives do a great job of creating expectations we never realize.

This is one reason Advent is helpful. Advent is a season observed by large segments of the Christian religion. It's geared toward preparing ourselves for the true meaning of Christmas…the coming of the Prince of Peace and Author of unconditional love and reckless, extravagant mercy. If you're feeling the effects of "Stressmas" or if this will be a particularly difficult holiday, St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Palatine invites you to a brief but peaceful weekly service of sung Evening Prayer. The service, called Holden Evening Prayer, is a contemporary, very gentle and contemplative experience. It lasts about 30 minutes. You may come and sing along or just listen.

Holden Evening Prayer services will be each Thursday during Advent at 6:30 p.m. St. Philip's Episcopal Church is located at 342 East Wood Street in Palatine. Everyone is welcome! For more information, call the church at 847-358-0615
