Judson's first Merit Recital to benefit Jamaican school

Judson University's Demoss Center for Worship in the Performing Arts will host its first Merit Recital at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, in the Thulin Performance Hall, 1151 N. State St. (Route 31) in Elgin. The event is free and open to the public.

This new initiative will feature the talents of students who auditioned earlier during the school year. Because of their excellence in musicianship, they were selected to perform during this special recital. This new presentation will take place at the end of each semester going forward.

In honor of the participating students, a gift of a new musical instrument will be given to the Farm Primary School in Jamaica each semester. The Farm Primary School has become a regular stop when the Judson University Choir visits Jamaica. A dream of the school has been to build a band, so the Demoss Center has partnered with Piano Trends Music Company in Crystal Lake to provide an instrument a semester to build a jazz band at the school.

Anyone interested in donating $1 to the instrument fund is invited to do so at the recital or before the recital in a special box in the Demoss Center office. Visit www.judsonu.edu.
