Wheeling man sentenced for delivering meth

A Wheeling man who prosecutors say hid drugs in a phony soft drink can pleaded guilty Tuesday to delivery of methamphetamine.

Vandan Echeverria, 23, was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay $2,694 in fines, court records show.

Echeverria was arrested in March after members of the Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant of his home. In addition to scales, packaging and currency, officers recovered cocaine, cannabis and 21 Ecstasy pills, prosecutors said during Echeverria's bond hearing.

Echeverria received credit for 255 days in custody. He must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
