2 men killed in South Elgin crash identified
Two men killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday on Route 31 in South Elgin have been identified as Mario Ramirez-Hernandez, 27, of Arlington Heights, and Rohit Singh, 31, of Mount Prospect.
A third man is recovering at Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 5:45 a.m. along northbound Route 31 near Scott Avenue north of McLean Boulevard.
The car veered off the road, striking two trees and splitting in two.
Ramirez-Hernandez and Singh were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Autopsies were performed Monday, and the preliminary cause of death is multiple injuries.
Toxicology samples were drawn and sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis, according to the Kane County coroner's office.
A crash investigation by the South Elgin Police Department and the Kane County Accident Recreation Task Force determined the vehicle veered off the road due to a high rate of speed, police Sgt. Mike Doty said.
All three men were ejected from the vehicle.
"Blunt force trauma was the primary cause of death," he added.
