Lavelle Law Attorneys to Present Panel on Legal Issues Related to Autism
A trio of attorneys from Lavelle Law in Palatine will be presenters at the November meeting of the Autism Spectrum Disorder Life Transitions Group at the Alexian Brothers Autism Spectrum and Developmental Disorders Resource Center. The session will take place in at Alexian Brothers Women & Children's Hospital, 1555 Barrington Road, in Hoffman Estates, and is free to parents and young adults ages 16 and up.
The panel will be held at 7 p.m. on November 22, and will be moderated by Steven Migala, a partner at Lavelle Law. Accompanying Migala will be two attorneys from the firm, Brian Warens and Michael Roth. Warens will explain the importance of powers of attorney and trusts, while Roth will discuss guardianship.
"Each month this support group welcomes speakers to discuss issues that are significant to young adults and their families who have autism spectrum disorder," said Maria Bellantuono, Clinical Director of the Hoffman Estates-based resource center. "We invite attendees to submit questions in advance so that Steven, Brian and Michael can address the specific issues that are important to our families."
Migala is pleased with the opportunity to participate in the meeting. "From a legal perspective, there are many unique issues to be addressed by families dealing with autism spectrum disorder. I think this setting will allow the three of us to have some very direct and detailed dialogue with those in attendance."
Brian Warens focuses much of his practice on estate planning issues and will discuss the value of establishing powers of attorney and trusts to protect the interests of individuals with autism, as well as their family members. Roth, who serves as a guardian ad litem for Cook County is well versed in matters related to guardianship and will assist those in attendance with understanding the key elements of the subject.
