Elk Grove VFW to raffle off Corvette
Elk Grove Village, in partnership with Elk Grove Community Character Coalition and the Elk Grove Village VFW Post 9284, have announced that Castle Chevrolet North will donate a 2017 Corvette to be raffled off in support of local veterans.
Castle Chevrolet, 175 N. Arlington Heights Road in Elk Grove Village, last year donated a car marking the village's 60th anniversary for a raffle to raise money for local civic organizations.
Castle was looking for another opportunity to partner with the community and found a perfect fit in a project to fund much-needed upgrades to the VFW Post 9284 Hall at 400 E. Devon Ave., including the installation of an elevator to ensure continued accessibility by local veterans. In addition to hosting weekly dinners, the building serves as an important gathering place for veterans.
"We will forever be grateful to our veterans and the many sacrifices that they have made on our behalf," said Mayor Craig Johnson, calling it a privilege for the community to be able to support the project.
The Community Character Coalition (CCC) will be administering the raffle. "This project really speaks to our core values of Caring and Citizenship, and gives us a chance to give back to those who have served our country," said member Kitty Weiner, who first proposed the idea.
"We are grateful for the generosity of Castle Chevrolet and the support of the Community Character Coalition in helping us raise funds to ensure we can continue to support the participation of all our veterans," said Post Cmdr. Terry Tomaso, adding that as the membership ages, the need for an elevator grows.
Raffle tickets are $10, or three for $20. The winner will be announced at the village's final summer concert on July 25. For more information on where to buy tickets, visit the Community Character Coalition website at http://ccceg.org.
