Elgin has upgrades in mind with riverboat shared revenue
ELGIN, Ill. (AP) - Elgin officials plan to use shared riverboat casino revenue to buy high-definition police car cameras, to build a new Lords Park pedestrian bridge and to install new lights at the Centre of Elgin's swimming pool.
The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports the 2017 riverboat fund includes $33 million. Officials expect to get $9.7 million in 2017 from shared gambling and admission revenues at Grand Victoria Casino. The city also gets money from leasing land to the boat and $200,000 from video gambling.
On the to-do list are $1 million for a new police security system; $700,000 for new squad cars; $400,000 for firefighting equipment; and security upgrades at city hall.
There's also $3 million in contingency funds for possible incentives for the Randall Road auto mall development.
