Texas LB Jefferson leaves game, evaluated for head injury

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas middle linebacker Malik Jefferson has been taken out of Saturday's game against No. 11 West Virginia to be evaluated for a head injury. School officials say the sophomore won't return.

Jefferson left early in the first quarter. His inspired play - 17 tackles and two sacks the previous two weeks - had helped the Longhorns win consecutive games against Baylor and Texas Tech.

He had three tackles, including one for a loss, and a quarterback hurry against the Mountaineers before leaving the game Saturday.

West Virginia leads at halftime 17-13.
