London police investigates case of bribery in soccer

LONDON (AP) - London police is investigating a case of bribery in soccer after receiving details from a newspaper's undercover investigation.

City of London Police did not name the target of the investigation by the economic crime directorate.

A police statement says detectives have "reviewed material gathered by a recent Daily Telegraph investigation into suspected corruption in football."

The force added the "decision has been taken to begin a criminal investigation into a single suspected offence of bribery."

Sam Allardyce was forced to resign as England manager in September after 67 days in the job after being accused of wrongdoing by the Daily Telegraph.

City of London Police say Allardyce "has received a letter from us saying he's not part of the investigation."
