Hours expanded for Festival of the Wreaths

The Arlington Heights Historical Society is expanding the time for viewing and bidding at the second Festival of the Wreaths to two weeks. Days this year will be Nov. 22 to Dec. 4 at the Arlington Heights Historical Museum, 110 W. Fremont, Arlington Heights.

"We had a great response last year with almost 80 wreaths donated and bid on," says Betsy Kmiecik, former president of the Historical Society, who also chairs the Festival of the Wreaths steering committee.

"We want more people to be able to donate, view, bid on and vote for their favorite wreath, so we're expanding the days the Festival of the Wreaths."

People can bid on and vote for their favorite wreath for the People's Choice Award from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, to Friday, Nov. 25, and after the Village of Arlington Heights Tree Lighting Ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday Nov. 25.

Bidding for wreaths continues in a silent auction until Sunday, Dec. 4, with winning bids announced Sunday afternoon.

For more information, go to www.ahmuseum.org or call (847) 255-1225. Informational brochures are available at the museum or from many local merchants. In the spirit of the season, museum visitors are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to be donated to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry.

All proceeds from the Festival of the Wreaths benefit the Historical Society's mission of collecting, preserving and presenting the history of Arlington Heights. The society is a volunteer, member-funded organization that is a partner of the Arlington Heights Historical Museum.
