Palatine woman killed in house fire

A Palatine woman was killed Thursday night in a house fire.

Palatine Fire Department Deputy Chief Patrick Gratzianna said firefighters responded to a resident's call of a house fire on the 300 block of Slade Street about 7:30 p.m., and rescuers arrived in five minutes.

Gratzianna said police on the scene first were able to rescue the woman's son from the fire. He was treated on the scene and released.

When firefighters arrived, they were told one other person was in the house. They found the woman in the kitchen and brought her outside to waiting paramedics, who were unable to revive her.

Gratzianna said that only debris in the house got in the way of the rescue.
