Notre Dame women sign New York forward, Virginia center

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Top-ranked Notre Dame has signed 6-foot-2 forward Danielle Patterson and 6-foot-3 center Mikayla Vaughn to play for the Irish starting next season.

Coach Muffet McGraw describes both as athletic post players with "high motors" who will help the Irish press and on defense. She said neither player will likely start immediately, but both should contribute.

Patterson averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds at The Mary Louis Academy in New York. McGraw says Patterson can play on the perimeter but also score around the basket.

Vaughn averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks at Friends' Central School near Philadelphia before transferring to Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, Virginia, for her senior season. McGraw says she will help defensively by being a presence inside.
