The Latest: Duckworth greets Chicago voters after Senate win
CHICAGO (AP) - The Latest on the Illinois general election results (all times local):
12:10 p.m.
Democratic U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth greeted voters in Chicago the morning after she was elected the next U.S. senator from Illinois.
Duckworth also planned stops Wednesday in Springfield and Peoria. She unseated incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk in Tuesday's general election.
Duckworth lost both of her legs but survived after the helicopter she was co-piloting in Iraq was shot down. On Wednesday morning she said she's "trying to be worthy of my crew and their struggle, to be worthy of this miraculous second chance."
Democrats had counted on a win in Illinois as they looked to retake control of the U.S. Senate, but Republicans held onto their slim majority.
Duckworth is a two-term congresswoman from Hoffman Estates. She entered the race a heavy favorite.

Illinois Republicans broke the Democrats' state House supermajority by knocking off four of their incumbents to give GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner more leverage during an historic budget standoff.
The Republican gains Tuesday mean the Democrats' membership in the Illinois House is down to 67 - four fewer than what the party needs to override gubernatorial vetoes.
Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan says the millions of dollars that Rauner invested in races and Donald Trump's headwind in southern Illinois "created a difficult environment for many Democratic candidates."
Democrats and Republicans have been unable to agree on a state budget since July 1, 2015. Rauner said Tuesday that it's time to "move forward together" and take prompt "action to solve problems and get good things done."
In the state comptroller's race, Susana Mendoza, a Democrat, ousted Rauner's hand-picked candidate, Leslie Munger.

Republicans cut into the Democrats' majority in the Illinois House on Tuesday even as Democratic women took the top state ticket races, with Hillary Clinton beating Donald Trump and U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth unseating Republican U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk.
Democrats have benefited from large voter turnout in past presidential elections but appeared to get mixed results this year. By early Wednesday, Republicans had won important victories in the state House as they sought to end a Democratic supermajority there. They were helped by GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner, who invested unprecedented amounts of money in support.
Another bright spot for Democrats was the state comptroller's race. Chicago City Clerk Susana Mendoza, a Democrat, ousted Rauner's hand-picked candidate, Leslie Munger.
