Man pleads guilty to not having a FOID card

A North Dakota man charged with gun violations in April after a Mount Prospect car crash pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm without a valid Firearm Owners Identification card, court records show.

Harry Schwegman, 60, was sentenced Monday to two years in prison and ordered to pay $1,964 in fines in exchange for his guilty plea.

Prosecutors say at the time of the crash, Schwegman was on probation for unauthorized use of a weapon, which stemmed from an incident at a Chicago restaurant last December. They say his FOID card had been revoked because of an active order of protection against him.

Police recovered an open bottle of vodka on the floor of the car along with a Bushmaster M4 rifle. They found several magazines of ammunition in the trunk, prosecutors said. Schwegman received credit for 308 days in custody.
