Southern Indiana fieldhouse to get mural on city's floodwall

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana fieldhouse once filled with the cheers of basketball fans will be memorialized with a special mural on the city of Jeffersonville's floodwall.

City public arts director Dawn Spyker says Jeffersonville's public art commission chose the Nachand Fieldhouse to be depicted on the city's Ohio River floodwall because it's an iconic building that holds many memories for local residents.

Spyker tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Kentucky (http://cjky.it/2f58MvK ) that Columbus, Ohio-based mural artist Jeremy Jarvis has been chosen to paint the panel alongside other murals toasting local landmarks such as Schimpff's Confectionery.

The fieldhouse built in 1937 was the longtime home to the Jeffersonville Red Devils basketball teams and hosted the area's sectional basketball games until 1971. It's now a community center that hosts weddings and other special events.
