Hernandez wins Kane County Board District 8 seat

Democrat Barbara Hernandez of Aurora won her bid for a four-year term as representative for Kane County Board District 8, according to unofficial returns.

She led Republican Linda Pasetti-Olson of Montgomery, 3,185 votes to 1,997.

During the campaign, Pasetti-Olson, 69, said Hernandez, 24 was too inexperienced to decide weighty matters such as property taxes and zoning petitions.

Hernandez defended living with her parents, including that it was customary for single Latinas. She also said she had skills through her job as an assistant to state Rep. Linda Chapa La Via. She touted her involvement in civic organizations, and said the county should offer more programs for youth.
