Somber day at Kaneland

Kaneland High School students and staff returned to school with heavy hearts Monday, following the deaths of two juniors in a weekend crash in Maple Park. Arthur "Arty" Stenger of Montgomery and Elijah Vajgert of Maple Park were killed when the pickup truck Arty was driving was hit by a trailer truck at Meredith and Beith roads. Full story.

Teen may have been trapped for hours after crash near Round Lake

A teen may have spent hours injured inside a rolled over car after it crashed in an unincorporated area near Round Lake sometime Monday, fire officials said. A Lake County sheriff's deputy discovered the 1994 Buick Regal on its roof in dense brush just before 2 p.m. off Wilson Road just south of Route 120. Full story.

'The Voice' run ends for West Dundee's Elmore

West Dundee's Riley Elmore made it into the Top 20 on this season of "The Voice," but was eliminated from NBC's singing competition show Monday night. Elmore, 16, a student at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville, wore a merlot-colored suit with a thin black tie and sang "Luck Be a Lady," a song by his favorite singer, Frank Sinatra. District 4, teachers union remain far apart on salaries

A proposal to give teachers about an 11 percent pay raise total over the next three years has not been enough to jump-start stalled contract talks in Addison Elementary District 4. Full story.

Lake Zurich Unit District 95 administrators sent this memo to football team members and their parents after an "inappropriate activity" in the days before last Saturday's playoff game. The players had to agree to five conditions to continue playing.

Lake Zurich High School football players were ordered by administrators to sign a student behavior agreement or be prohibited from playing the rest of the 2016 season after team members participated in "inappropriate activity" in the days before Saturday's playoff game. Full story.

Prospect High School's Marching Knights were hard at work Monday preparing for what they hope will be a performance of a lifetime when they march past Central Park and through Midtown Manhattan as part of the 2016 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Full story.

Police seek missing man last seen near Des Plaines on Friday

Police are asking for help finding a man last seen leaving his home in an unincorporated area near Des Plaines to attend the Cubs World Series parade. Gathoon Garmoos, 23, was last seen on the 9000 block of Sherry Lane at about 4 a.m. Friday. Full story.

Bears healing nicely for second half of season

After a week off, a much healthier Bears team returned to the practice field Monday in preparation for Sunday's game against the 3-5 Buccaneers in Tampa. Fowler expected to opt for free agency

According to reports, center fielder Dexter Fowler will turn down the team's $17.2 million qualifying offer and will opt for free agency. Fowler has been the Cubs' sparkplug out of the leadoff spot for two seasons. Read beat writer Bruce Miles' take here.
