Candidate who cares about the future
I have come to know Jarett Sanchez as a leader in the local movement of Dundee Township, which is opposing the Longmeadow Parkway project.
That is a federally supported road project, including a toll bridge across the Fox Valley, a project commenced, despite Township voters' overwhelming opposition to it in a March 2016 Advisory Referendum. The basis of that opposition was made clear in scores of critical comments, articulated at a public hearing, Aug. 30, 2016, the effects of which are still pending a crucial decision on the issue by the Federal Highway Administration.
During these processes, it has also become clear that Jarett has the interests of his would-be constituents uppermost in mind by providing constant invitations and opportunities, to let him know their concerns and to let them know his stand and principles. It's apparent in what he says and how he conducts himself, as a civic activist, that he believes in community and democracy and sees a need for greater transparency and responsiveness in government.
Indeed, he's running precisely because those values have been so callously ignored and bulldozed over by private and unelected transportation interests of Illinois and Kane County, and of course those elected officials who represent those interests rather than local voters.
For those who care about the pressing issues that Kane County will face in years to come - a healthy water supply, clean air, forest preservation and many adverse ecological impacts of uncontained sprawl - a vote for Jarrett is a vote for an energetic, intelligent and democratically principled representative to the Kane County Board.
