Young people must vote their interests
The current presidential election will not soon be forgotten. It has sparked controversy across the nation and challenged the voting patterns of traditionally blue or red states.
Many people feel that they have to choose between two candidates they despise while some don't want to make that decision thus choosing not to vote. I believe that young voters, who make up roughly 30 percent of the electorate, must change their historically low voter turnout.
While many 18-year-olds may view certain issues to be irrelevant due to their age, what they don't realize is how soon these issues will affect them. The desires of young people aren't a focus of candidates due to how few of them come to the polls to vote.
If more young voters vote, their voices will more likely be heard. If the controversy of this election can bring about any positive change, a change in the voter turnout of a historically inactive group would be a desirable one.
As a young person with the inability to vote, I urge those who are old enough to vote to do so with my and the rest of my peers' best intentions in mind.
