Naperville North actors choose kids' play

Each year, theater students at Naperville North High School choose one play to direct and produce themselves. This year's student-run production will be the Tony Award-winning musical "Peter and the Starcatcher, a children's play for all ages.|

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2; 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in the North Performing Arts Center, 899 N. Mill St., Naperville.

"Peter and the Starcatcher" answers the century-old question: How did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Never Grew Up? This epic origin story of one of popular culture's most enduring characters proves that your imagination is the most captivating place in the world.

The play was chosen after senior students submitted proposals for the play of their choice to staff members who then weighed all the options.

This year's production was selected for several reasons. Not only is this a classic tale that many parents have read with their own kids so it is well-known, but student producers also proposed creating a lesson plan for teachers bringing their elementary and junior high classes to the day shows.

The production includes a troop of 25 student actors who play more than 100 characters with talent, ingenious stagecraft and imagination. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, "Peter and the Starcatcher" explores the depths of greed and despair ... and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors. For tickets, go to naperville203.tix.com.
