Lake in the Hills man charged with attempted murder in Elgin shooting

A 35-year-old man has been charged with a Saturday morning shooting at an Elgin apartment in which one person was wounded.

Marco C. Beach, of the 1300 block of Count Court, Lake in the Hills, faces felony charges of attempted murder, armed violence, and four counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, according to Elgin Police and Kane County court records.

Police were called at about 11 a.m. Saturday to investigate a shooting at an apartment on the 100 block of State Street near downtown, where they found the victim, who was taken to a hospital, officials said. Police believe everyone involved knew each other.

A message left at the department seeking additional information Tuesday was not immediately returned.

Beach's bail was set at $2 million Tuesday, meaning he must post $200,000 to be released while the charges are pending.

He does not have any previous felony arrests in Kane or McHenry counties, according to court records.

Beach's next court date was not immediately available.

If convicted of the most severe charge, he faces up to six to 30 years in prison, plus a possible additional 15 years in prison if prosecutors can prove he fired the gun and it caused great bodily harm to the victim.
