Coroner: 9 overdose deaths in 8 days in northwest Indiana

CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - A northwest Indiana coroner is warning about a rash of overdose deaths.

Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey issued a news release Tuesday saying her office has investigated nine drug overdose deaths in the past eight days. She says six of those deaths are heroin-related.

She issued a plea to those who are using drugs or know someone who is to be aware that help for recovery is available at mental health facilities. She said for people who suffer from opiate addiction, Methadone, Suboxone, and Vivitrol are available at clinics along with medical care and counseling.
