Chicago man, woman charged with attacking Palatine man
A teen and a 21-year-old woman from Chicago have been charged with attacking a man in Palatine and stealing his cellphone.
Esteban Andrade, 18, was ordered held on $50,000 bail Monday. Joanna Gutierrez, 21, who is on parole for an aggravated battery conviction, was ordered held on $100,000 bail.
Prosecutors say a man was walking in an apartment complex on the 700 block of East Rand Grove Lane about 11:45 p.m. Saturday when Andrade, Gutierrez and a juvenile began yelling obscenities at him.
Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Alyssa Grissom said Gutierrez punched the man, who tried to flee. The trio caught up to him, punched him and took his cellphone, Grissom said.
The man called police, who arrested Andrade, Gutierrez and the juvenile, Grissom said.
Andrade has no criminal background. Besides being on parole, Gutierrez has misdemeanor convictions for retail theft and battery.
They next appear in court on Nov. 28.
