Register for wellness programs at Schaumburg Library
What could be better than improving your health and wellness? Doing it for free.
The Schaumburg Township District Library has several upcoming programs designed to provide information and strategies for preventing or reducing health-related problems. All of the programs are free, but do require registration.
To register, call (847) 923-3347 or visit the Information Desk on the library's second floor. You can also register online at SchaumburgLibrary.org/events. Unless otherwise noted, the following programs take place at the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.
To navigate the sometimes choppy waters of Medicare, the library will offer "Medicare Made Clear" from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the Rasmussen South Room. Insurance Broker Donna Spigolon will explain Medicare Supplements, Advantage and Drug plans, enrollment timelines, guarantee issue periods and more.
This information will be particularly helpful to persons switching to Medicare from a group employer plan, or anyone who needs clarity on the 2017 changes to Medicare rules. Annual enrollment into Medicare runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.
Feeling stressed or overwhelmed? Join others at "Meditate to be Serene" from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in the Rasmussen North Room. Participants will learn how to find greater peace, calm and centeredness through meditation. Michael Ribet will lead the meditation and discuss simple techniques to help us gain serenity and reduce stress levels.
Approximately 54 million Americans have osteoporosis or low bone mass, which increases the risk of osteoporosis. Might you be one of them? There's no fee for getting the answer at the osteoporosis screenings from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Schaumburg Library's Hoffman Estates Branch, 1550 Hassell Road, and 4:30-7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 28, at the Central Library in the Rasmussen North Room.
Anyone older than 35 is invited to participate in these screenings conducted by AMITA Health registered nurses. Register with AMITA by calling (855) 692-6482. Select the first available appointment.
If you're among the thousands of people caring for someone with dementia or Alzheimer's, you won't want to miss "Tips for Alzheimer's Caregivers" from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, in the Rasmussen South Room. Alzheimer's expert Kelly Hutchison will help families learn to deal with difficult moments and explain the changes experienced by the victims of memory loss.
These are just a few of the upcoming programs, classes and bus trips coming to the Schaumburg Library locations in Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park. For a full listing, see the library's October-November Guide or visit www.SchaumburgLibrary.org.
You'll find programs for all ages, with topics that include art, history, food, health, science, computer technology, careers, genealogy and more.
