Making a Difference All Year Long
At the October meeting, the Women's Club of Inverness (WCI) heard Mary Green from Shelter, Inc. discuss emergency services for children and adolescents. The non-profit organization began forty-two years ago when police officer Paul Bucholz saw a need. Suburban children experiencing a crisis were taken into Chicago for help, but that help meant the children left their school, friends, and family. Today, Shelter, Inc. offers emergency group homes and foster care, helps young parents with a baby's needs and helps young people become self-sufficient. To make a difference, WCI members donated board books for children under the age of five to Shelter, Inc. The books will be distributed over the holidays.
Shelter, Inc is one of thirty non-profits WCI supports with grants and collections. Members look for ways to show kindness by making a difference in the lives of students, the elderly, families, and women by awarding grants to non-profits and scholarships to students on a yearly basis. Members attend fundraising functions, and support WCI by designating the Women's Club of Inverness as their charity of choice at smile.amazon.com. Each purchase that originates from the Amazon Smile page donates a portion to scholarships and philanthropy. For more information contact Eileen Kohne, president, 847-202-0044 or ekohne@msn.com.
