New lighting will brighten up any space
My living room is in desperate need of a makeover. The wallpaper is more than 20 years old and a foil print. The carpet is also more than 20 years old and the floors need an update.
The furniture is now covered but from Montgomery Ward and 19 years old. The lighting in the room is awful and outdated. The only lighting comes from the lamps on the end tables.
We have been meaning to do redo this room but life keeps getting in the way with other expenses continually put the makeover on hold. It would be a dream come true to get the room done!

This room is well loved. The couches and carpet are worn. The coffee table is too small and not correctly placed in the room. I would update the furniture and lighting while leaving the wallpaper. Foiled and textured wallpapers are coming back. We can modernize this wallpaper by putting a fresh light cream couch with modern lines in front of it and pair it with some taller table lamps.
Suggestions:
• Update the sofas. Sam Moore's Palisades collection has a variety of sizes with different fabric options.
• Currey's Encore lamp will add some height and contrast against the wallpaper, while pulling out the gold foil accent. Softer gold accents are coming back in.
• Overall lighting: Add a center light fixture to get some overall light in the room. A certified electrician can easily run power up from your wall. Do a simple semi-flush fixture such as one from Feiss' Lennon collection in subtle gold.
• Update the coffee table. Hooker Furniture's Curata round table will fill the space nicely. Place this over a darker rug like Surya's Alfresco for some contrast and to tie the black lampshades back in.
