Waukegan police investigating shooting during failed carjacking
Waukegan police say they are investigating the shooting of a woman that happened during a failed carjacking attempt.
Police said they were called about 12:35 a.m. Saturday to the 500 block of Judge Avenue about a shooting. They said a woman in her 30s was shot in her car after two men tried to force their way in.
The woman suffered an injury not considered life-threatening, police said. She remained hospitalized Saturday.
Both men suspected in the attempted carjacking and shooting were described as black, taller than 6 feet and wearing sweatshirts, according to Waukegan authorities.
The victim pulled over on Judge Avenue to park her car when a light-colored, four-door sedan pulled behind her. The men then approached the woman's car, police said.
Waukegan detectives have obtained surveillance images of the sedan and believe it might be a Chevrolet Impala, and there may have been two other people in the car when the shooting occurred.
