Mundelein village board to honor veterans
The Mundelein village board is hosting a ceremony to commemorate Veterans Day and honor area veterans for their sacrifices and honorable military service.
All veterans are invited to a ceremony Monday, Oct. 24, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Mundelein Village Hall, immediately preceding the village board meeting. The ceremony will be co-hosted with the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Doors will open at 6 p.m., 30 minutes before commencement of the ceremony.
This is the second year Mayor Steve Lentz and the village trustees have hosted an event to honor area veterans. This year, they will specifically recognize veterans of the Korean War who reside in Lake County, but all veterans are welcome and encouraged to attend the ceremony. Korean War veterans will receive an honor guard welcome, then Lentz will read a mayoral proclamation honoring veterans.
After these events, all of the Korean War veterans will be presented with a personalized mayoral proclamation.
"Veterans Day gives us a chance to pause and honor the sacrifices, courage, and patriotism of the men and women who have worn a military uniform. America is the land of opportunity and a beacon of hope and freedom to the rest of the world because our soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen, and Coast Guardsmen have fought valiantly to defeat tyranny and terror, and protect the liberties we hold most dear," Lentz said.
