Kane state's attorney's office will visit precincts Nov. 8, operate election hotline
The Kane County state's attorney's office will again operate a hotline for people to report voting problems or electioneering Nov. 8.
The complaint line of (630) 208-5328 will be active 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, and State's Attorney Joe McMahon said his assistant state's attorneys will fan out to all 228 voting precincts that day.
"This has been a charged campaign season at the national level. We've seen a little bit of that locally," McMahon said this week. "We've really had well-run elections. There have been some long lines but that's a good problem to have."
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has amped up his claims in recent days that the election is "rigged" and voter fraud will benefit Democrat Hillary Clinton.
McMahon said there have been no complaints of voter fraud since he took office six years ago, nor has the state's election commission asked his office to investigate any possible cases.
"We have not had a single complaint of voter fraud since I've been state's attorney," said McMahon, noting that most complaints are about election signs placed too close to polling places.
"We have never found a notable violation of election laws in the years we have had this complaint line, and we expect that to remain the case."
People with questions about polling places and voting times should call the county clerk's help line at (630) 232-5990.
