Fox Valley Philharmonic celebrates Poplar Creek library's anniversary
At 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, the Fox Valley Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Maryann Flock, will present a special "Through the Ages" orchestral concert at the Poplar Creek Public Library.
The free concert will feature a collection of show-tunes, movie themes, light classical music, and a rock song or two from the '60s, '70s and '80s.
The Philharmonic's modern classical selections include composers Leroy Anderson, Aaron Copland, and Michael Tilson Thomas. In addition to these works, Maestro Flock will lead the orchestra through gems such as "Star Wars," "Sound of Music," "Man of La Mancha," and "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince.
This will be the last concert with Maestro Flock as music director of the Philharmonic and the Fox Valley Academy of Music. Flock is passing the baton to the next generation of upcoming conductors for December's Fox Valley "Sing-Along" Messiah.
Admission to the Philharmonic concert is free. The 50th anniversary celebration will be held at the Poplar Creek Public Library, 1405 S. Park Ave., Streamwood. This concert is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
