Officer in northwestern Indiana shoots, wounds suspect
GARY, Ind. (AP) - Northwestern Indiana authorities say a police officer has shot and wounded a person who tried to run him down with a vehicle.
Gary police say they received a call about midnight Thursday about a suspicious vehicle and the officer responded. Police say the male suspect tried to run over the officer and the officer fired at him.
The Lake County Sheriff's Department issued a news release Friday afternoon saying the suspect is in serious but stable condition in a Chicago hospital. The suspect's name has not been released. The sheriff's department is investigating the shooting.
The officer involved is described as a 10-year veteran of the Gary Police Department.
