Culinary world's Beard Awards extends Chicago run until 2021
CHICAGO (AP) - The culinary world's prestigious James Beard Awards ceremony will take place in the city of Chicago for five more years.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and James Beard Foundation President Susan Ungaro announced the extension Friday.
Chicago has hosted the awards ceremony since 2015. Prior to that, New York had hosted the event honoring the best chefs and restaurants in the U.S. for 25 years.
The foundation says chefs, media and the food community have been "exceedingly positive" about the Chicago move. Emanuel says the extension is a "testament to the city of Chicago's reputation as a culinary capital and cultural destination."
