Chicago-area sentenced to 7 years in DUI crash

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) - A Chicago-area man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for hitting a motorcycle while driving drunk and severing the motorcyclist's lower leg.

A Wednesday statement from the Kane County state's attorney's office says 46-year-old Quinn Gabnay was convicted on several counts of aggravated DUI during a bench trial this year.

Prosecutors say the Elburn man was driving on a rural road in 2014 when his pick-up truck veered into the wrong lane and hit the Harley-Davidson. They say the motorcyclist had pulled toward the shoulder of the road but was still struck.

Prosecutors say Gabnay's blood-alcohol level was nearly two and a half times Illinois' legal limit.

Gabnay had been free on bond. Under state law, he must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence imposed.
