Schaumburg Library Invites All Ages to Maker Day
All ages can build, create and explore during "Maker Day" from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. This free event will be held throughout the library and include hands-on stations, interactive programs and demonstrations. No registration is necessary, and participants are welcome to drop in anytime during "Maker Day" hours.
"Maker Day is a hands-on opportunity for all ages to celebrate the DIY spirit," said Program and Outreach Coordinator Kate Niehoff. "Complete with robots, arts and crafts, and opportunities to create circuit boards and watch a home brewing demonstration, Maker Day will appeal to techies and non-techies alike."
"Maker Day" attendees will have the opportunity to try soldering, engineering projects, and button making. Everyone is additionally invited to learn about needlepoint, home brewing and a high gas mileage car developed by Conant High School students. The library's robots, Dot and Dash, will be on hand for anyone who wants to try their hands at the controls. These are just a few of the events taking place during "Maker Day."
Opportunities for engaging in hands-on activities at the library will continue throughout October, with programs including Paint a Pumpkin on Tuesday, Oct. 18, Lego League on Tuesdays, Oct. 18 and Nov. 16, Animal Science on Wednesdays, Oct. 19 and Nov. 16, Video Creation Workshop on Fridays, Oct. 14 and 21, and Google Cardboard Workshop on Monday, Oct. 17. Details, times and locations can be found in the library's October-November Guide, or at www.SchaumburgLibrary.org.
