Open house to be held for Mayor Weisner

The Aurora community is invited to an open house to wish Mayor Tom Weisner well in his pending retirement.

The open house will be from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, in the Paramount Theatre's Grand Gallery, 23 E. Galena Blvd.

Weisner is stepping down at the end of October because of health concerns and will be replaced by Alderman Robert O'Connor, who will serve as acting mayor until after the spring election.

During the open house, Weisner and his wife, Marilyn, will speak with visitors. Guests also will have an opportunity to watch a scrolling pictorial review of some of the highlights of Weisner's administration since he took office in 2005.

"Marilyn and I are very humbled by all of the love and support we've received over the years and the outpouring of well wishes after my decision to step down early," Weisner said. "I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to help lead Aurora for nearly three terms, and we are both looking forward to being able to say thanks to everyone at the open house."

To fulfill the multiple requests from the community, there will be limited opportunity at the open house to make presentations to the mayor. Organizations, agencies, churches and businesses that want to make special presentations may submit a request via email to MyAurora@aurora-il.org.

As the city documents the impact of Weisner's administration, community members also will have an opportunity to be a part of the process. During the open house, Aurora Community Television will record one-minute video reflections.

Anyone who would like to share their comments can sign up on-site. A compilation video will be presented to the mayor and shown on ACTV and the city's social media sites.
