Police investigating newborn found in suburban Chicago field

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) - Police in south suburban Chicago say they're looking for the mother of a newborn girl found in a field near a roadway and residential and commercial buildings.

Chicago Heights police say they received a 911 call about 11 a.m. Tuesday from a person reporting an unattended infant lying in the grass in an open field. The baby was taken to a nearby hospital where medical staff said the infant was in stable condition and born about two to three hours before being found.

Police Chief Thomas Rogers says he's concerned the mother needs medical attention.

Chicago Heights is about 25 miles south of downtown Chicago.
